RUNWAY REPORT: MBFF Bridal Group Show

Words: Alexandra Schultz

This year marked the launch of the first ever Monili Jewellers Bridal Group Show at the annual Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival - and didn't it go off with a bang. A select group of renowned local designers sent the bridal looks of the season around the circular runway within newly-renovated Brisbane City Hall, creating a magical display of extravagant fabric selections, modern silhouettes and truly breathtaking embellishment.

QB Highlights:

The 'sheer' genius of George Wu's nature-inspired creations. Feathers, floral motifs, nudes and ivories plus plenty of gloriously sheer detailing made for a playful, whimsical collection.
The beautifully feminine lines of Bertossi Brides' timeless designs. A standout included the opening number; a strapless, floating organza creation in barely-there blue, a superb rendition of the growing coloured gown trend.

Brides Desire by Wendy Sullivan's 20s-inspired accessorising. Delicate headpieces crafted from pearls, tulle and feathers offset her heavily-embellished gowns for the most romantic 'bling' we've ever laid eyes on. (Check out our headpiece special in the current QB for more gorgeous 20s inspiration!)

Elizabeth de Varga's soft and luscious designs. Think ripple-layered skirts, tulle overlays, slinky satins and some princess-worthy flower girl dresses. Her modern interpretation of the convertible wedding dress was also a crowd pleaser; the sparkles, feathers and super cute hemline was a pop of fun amongst all the glamour.

Jack Sullivan's pattern play - subtle floral laces and embroided organzas adorned his classic-cut gowns. Perfect for the bride searching for timeless with a twist.

Regalia Bridal Designs' daring combination of caramel crochet, embroidery and fresh modern structure. With a dress to suit every bridal style (slinky minimalism, heritage extravagance, classic tulle…) this was one of the most versatile collections of the night.
