Gilded Gold Wedding Style

We've loved gossiping gold all week! Friday seems the perfect time to talk sparkles ...

Weddings seem to be having a bit of a 'sparkly' moment. A bit of a 'sparkly gold' moment to be exact. Gilded details are popping up in bridal fashion, beauty, florals, reception styling, cakes and almost everything in between, and here at the QB offices we simply can't get enough. To inject your big day with a sense of fun, celebration and festivity, look no further than a pop of gold. And get creative about it! We're loving the gold DIY projects popping up - particularly the glitter-encrusted reception details which are a super easy, super cheap and super fun option. Enjoy some of our favourite gold pretty things, and do send us in ideas of your own if you've recently enjoyed a gold-tinged wedding! We always love to hear from you.

RUNWAY REPORT: MBFF Bridal Group Show

Words: Alexandra Schultz

This year marked the launch of the first ever Monili Jewellers Bridal Group Show at the annual Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival - and didn't it go off with a bang. A select group of renowned local designers sent the bridal looks of the season around the circular runway within newly-renovated Brisbane City Hall, creating a magical display of extravagant fabric selections, modern silhouettes and truly breathtaking embellishment.

QB Highlights:

The 'sheer' genius of George Wu's nature-inspired creations. Feathers, floral motifs, nudes and ivories plus plenty of gloriously sheer detailing made for a playful, whimsical collection.
The beautifully feminine lines of Bertossi Brides' timeless designs. A standout included the opening number; a strapless, floating organza creation in barely-there blue, a superb rendition of the growing coloured gown trend.

Brides Desire by Wendy Sullivan's 20s-inspired accessorising. Delicate headpieces crafted from pearls, tulle and feathers offset her heavily-embellished gowns for the most romantic 'bling' we've ever laid eyes on. (Check out our headpiece special in the current QB for more gorgeous 20s inspiration!)

Brides Desire by Wendy Sullivan

Elizabeth de Varga's soft and luscious designs. Think ripple-layered skirts, tulle overlays, slinky satins and some princess-worthy flower girl dresses. Her modern interpretation of the convertible wedding dress was also a crowd pleaser; the sparkles, feathers and super cute hemline was a pop of fun amongst all the glamour.

Jack Sullivan's pattern play - subtle floral laces and embroided organzas adorned his classic-cut gowns. Perfect for the bride searching for timeless with a twist.

Regalia Bridal Designs' daring combination of caramel crochet, embroidery and fresh modern structure. With a dress to suit every bridal style (slinky minimalism, heritage extravagance, classic tulle…) this was one of the most versatile collections of the night.

All That Glitters Is Gold: Wedding Style for the Glitteratzis

Wednesday is with us, but lets just pretend the weekend is a little closer by gawking at these stunning pics. This styled shoot is featured in QB Spring 2013, but we couldn't fit in all the pictures we wanted! Luckily our blog has no such limitations. This shoot fits in perfectly with this week's glittery gold theme, we think you'll be able to see why ...

As seen in Queensland Brides Spring 2013

A regal colour palette of gold, cream and touches of deep emerald sets the tone for this luxurious affair. Subtle references to the opulence of the 20s are juxtaposed against a modern tropical Queensland garden for a wedding full of decadence and frivolity.

STYLING: Stylist Nicole Ritchie from Beautiful Weddings describes the set up as "a completely glamorous look". Gold tiffany chairs are highlighted by soft ivory tassels, presided over by a prominent feather-adorned arch featuring a baroque-style gold heart, which Nicole explains is used to represent "old money and wealth". The dessert table, which features 24 carat edible gold finishes, combines crisp white with all that glitters - encrusted cylindrical vases containing white roses are a simple yet effective addition.

BEAUTY: Giulia Ponticello, who transformed the shoot's model into a sultry goddess, used "dark, smokey heavily-lined eyes" and "cheeks rouged in reds and pinks" to achieve the popular 20s look. A Wendy Makin headpiece, encrusted with crystals, pearls, tulle and feathers, completed the gorgeous vintage vision.

Gold Week - Bling Off

When it comes to your wedding bling, you don't have to go 'real'. Costume jewellery is a fantastic way to save the big bucks and still show off some sparkle.

As it's gold week we thought we'd share with you some funky costume jewellery in our favourite shade of the week.

If you're curious as to where to source your costume jewellery for your big day, think about asking your wedding gown designer, they usually have some gorgeous pieces or some great recommendations for what would match your dress, your personality and your budget.
