Hens and Bucks Inspiration: Sunshine Coast

If you are lucky enough to live on Queensland's stunning Sunshine Coast, why not celebrate with one, or a few, of our helpful hens and bucks hints? The Sunshine Coast is also a great destination for a pre-wedding celebration, so consider hitting the Coast for a getaway party!

WORDS: Aoife Nield

BACHELORETTE PARTY
• A beach bachelorette picnic – a tent or marquee in rainbow hues, floral teas, Turkish delight, pastries, pistachios, honey-covered almonds, breads and dips
• Strawberry picking + strawberry cocktail and make your own jam favours
• Have your palm read then visit the Mapleton Observatory before a
late supper where you share your fortunes
• Enjoy a spa day, then celebrate with High Tea. Not only will you feel Zen, you can continue holistically with green tea or enjoy some cheeky Champagne. Try Spicers Clovelly Estate for a one-stop experience

BACHELOR PARTY
• Beer tasting at Sunshine Coast Brewery, then select your favourite flavour to serve at the wedding [ask about keg hire options]
• 1940s inspired tennis tournament, followed by Pimms Punch or G&Ts, then cocktail dress for a mixology lesson at a local bar
• Take lessons with Surfing Queensland (various locations on SC), then take a surfing road trip up the Coastal Way (100km of coastline) to discover beaches that can be revisited as a group again and again
• Fishing trip up the Noosa River

TOGETHER
• Mad Men cocktail party. Ladies, don a frock and pin up your hair; Gents, break out that long-forgotten plaid coat and skinny tie. Bring selected spirits and create your own cocktail hour favourites (try an Old Fashioned or Whiskey Sour) in a romantic location. Maleny’s House Of Laurels might be ideal for a 1960s feel with its heritage ambience. You and your guests can twist the night away, with a Mint Julep in hand
• Organise regular planning parties that include friends and family in the elements that are core to the day for you as a couple. Make these a fun process and a labour of love will become an amazing memory. On the day of your wedding, if you can look around and see the nights of playlist brainstorming and afternoon cake tasting that built you up to that moment, then you have memories that you can cherish always
