Wendy Makin Couture Collection 2013 Revealed

We went along to Wendy Makin's showroom to view the Makin Couture 2013 Collection (expected to be in Australian stores from January 2013) and it was dreamy! We always expect great things from this award winning designer and we were not disappointed.

The collections reveal was held at the designer's Woolloongabba showroom.  Special guests and media were invited to an exclusive first-look preview of the new collection, which featured 18 handcrafted and Australian-designed bridal gowns.

"We've already experienced an overwhelming response from brides regarding a number of gowns. This includes the Caldeonia which was showcased at this year's Queensland Brides Design Awards, and was crowned the Supreme winner," Mrs Makin said.

The gowns incorporate various design features that are expected to be popular in 2013, such as the use of sheer lace overlays, floral patterns and overskirts. For us the standout gowns in this 18 piece collection are Caldeonia, Katelyn, Reegan and Ramona, as they push traditional bridal design barriers, and perfectly represent Wendy Makin's signature style and forward thinking.

Earlier this year, Wendy Makin opened a store in Melbourne, Brides on Collins, to meet the current demand for high quality and tailored bridal fitting and design services in Victoria.

In October, Wendy won the Couture, People's Choice, and Supreme awards at the 2012 Queensland Brides Design Awards and received a Highly Commended for the Avante Garde category, all of which will be shown in the February 2013 edition of Queensland Brides.

Vintage Elegance : Louise & John's Toowoomba Wedding

It was love at first sight when we saw the gorgeous images from Louise McCorley and John Hallo’s Toowoomba wedding. From the bridesmaids’ soft pink tea dresses to the dramatic bespoke chandelier which hung in the marquee, this couple had a clear vision and they knew how to make it work!

A consistent colour palette of pale pink, brown, and cream was carried beautifully throughout together with an emphasis on clean lines; while vintage touches like the bride’s faux fur shrug added a touch of individuality and glamour.

Special Memory
Getting to the top of aisle. All the nerves and excitement transformed into absolute happiness when we were able to stand together in front of all our friends and family and share the moment with them.

Our Order of Events
We tried to create a style and a feel for the wedding that was about everyone being together in one place ... each event was seamless and lead from one to the other without people wondering what was happening next or when dinner would be served. We wanted 160 guests to feel like 40 and this was done by making sure people couldn’t spread out across different rooms too much. We had a very strict timetable that the restaurant followed to ensure we were always on schedule and the formal proceedings didn’t drag on.

Our Colour Notes
As much as a colour theme seems a little old school, it really helps tie everything together and carries the experience for the guests through from the invitation to the thankyou cards. Being confident in your style makes it a lot easier to make decisions between certain elements, even down to the chair you choose or the candle holder.

Hen’s Night
My beautiful bridesmaids organised a long lunch in Brisbane at The Chelsea. They arranged for everyone to take polaroids on the day and post them in a book with a note – a very special souvenir.

Funniest Moment
You feel like a complete try-hard posing in the photos but because we just laughed at ourselves the whole time (which I think was Darren’s goal) the photos turned out so well and everyone just looks like they are having a brilliant day!
